The Annual Anchorage Slam'n Salm'n Derby takes place along downtown's Ship Creek June 7-16, 2013.Alaska is well known for its crab AND its salmon.  The salmon are making their run through downtown Anchorage’s Ship Creek.  That means that it must be time for the Anchorage Slam’n Salm’n Derby 2013!

Search the MLS to find Anchorage homes for saleFrom June 7th through June 16th, the annual Slam’n Slam’n Derby will bring cheers of “Fish On!” throughout the downtown Anchorage area.  Beginning at 6am on Friday, June 7th, all fishermen ages six and older are eligible to participate in the derby.  Contestants under the age of 16 must have a harvest record card from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G).  All contestants ages 16+ must have a valid ADF&G fishing license.  All contestants must be in possession of a Derby ticket (provided free of charge at the Derby headquarters) and comply with all ADF&G rules and regulations, no matter what their age is.

There is only one entry allowed per contestant during the entire duration of the Derby.  Your king salmon must be caught within the Derby limits and brought to the official weigh-in at Derby headquarters by the person who caught it (no entries by proxy allowed).  A valid photo ID, a Derby entry ticket and your fishing license or harvest record card must be presented at time of weigh-in.  Derby headquarters are located in the Alaska Railroad Plaza in downtown Anchorage and are open until 11pm every day of the Derby except Sunday, June 16th, when it will be open until 12pm only.

All money raised from the Anchorage Slam’n Salm’n Derby will benefit the Downtown Soup Kitchen.  The Downtown Soup Kitchen feeds thousands of hungry and homeless Anchorage residents year round.  For more information, please call (907) 277-4302.
